Year 9 Design Technology (9DET)
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Mr C. Thomas, Ms S. Laing.
Design Technology is about designing technological outcomes that are made using tools, materials and processes in our hard-materials technology workshop.
Learning Content:
Design Technology is a practical subject with an emphasis on following the technological process to generate ideas in response to a design brief. Concepts are developed through drawing and modelling before being made in the workshop. Students will have a range of design briefs or project tasks to work through. These might cover small or medium scale outcomes such as metal or acrylic jewelry and small wooden containers. Essential knowledge about tools, equipment, properties of materials and their suitability for their project are taught in a way to encourage confidence and creativity.
This subject is suitable to all students, especially those interested in creative design manufacture.
