Level 1 Social Studies (1SOS)
Subject Description
Teacher in Charge: Mrs S. Lamb, Mr E. Brown.
Social Studies is about people — who they are, what they do, how they change, and what happens to them. We examine different societies, cultures, and human rights, and how these can change over time across different contexts. Several case studies are studied throughout the year based on current events and what is happening in Aotearoa and the world at the time. Students actively participate in making change through undertaking a social action that challenges the current system. Social Studies is a highly relevant subject, which encourages students to think critically about people and real-world topics, gaining a better understanding of how society, and the world, works.
